Employee-declared availability
Each employee declares, from their phone, the days and time windows when they can work and the dated periods when they will be away. Planning compares against it on every shift created and flags the gap to the supervisor, who decides: availability informs, it never refuses.

How it works, in detail

Flagged, never blocked
A shift placed outside declared availability shows as a warning in the form and surfaces as a conflict in bulk creation. The supervisor decides anyway, because they are the one who knows the real constraint behind the declaration. Availability that refused a shift would push planning outside the app and onto a scrap of paper: the information would be lost rather than gained.

Two ways to say no
The typical week first: never on Tuesdays, never after 3 p.m. on Fridays, one window per day. Then dated periods, each with a note: planned vacation, exam session, shared custody. Both are declared from the mobile app, and management is notified of the change if it wants to be.

Declaring nothing is not a declaration
An employee who has entered nothing is available at all times, and their schedule raises no warning. That is deliberate: nobody should have to fill in a form to be schedulable, and silence must not read as a refusal. A declaration is extra information when it exists, never a prerequisite.
