How it works, in detail

   Both shifts change hands at once, or not at all

   A swap is symmetric: one employee's shift and the other's change holder together, never one without the other. The shifts keep their identifiers and only the holder's name changes, so forecast timesheets follow and so does the history. While it is pending, both shifts stay with their holders and carry a swap-in-progress marker, and the schedule the crew reads never lies.

   The guards are replayed three times

   Notice, both shifts still existing, still belonging to their holders, no overlap and no weekly threshold exceeded once swapped: all of it is checked when the swap is proposed, checked again when the colleague accepts, then a third time on execution. A calendar moves between the three, and a swap accepted Tuesday must not create a conflict on Thursday.

   You choose how much control to keep

   Swaps and releases switch on or off separately, and assignment runs either under supervisor approval (the default: handing off a shift commits two people's pay) or automatically, for crews that want the plain arrangement. Minimum notice and management notifications are set on the organization, then overridden profile by profile: a crew lead does not get the same latitude as a new hire.
