Institutional-commercial schedules and overtime, applied automatically
The IC sector multiplies trade-specific regimes: 8 or 10-hour days, day and evening windows, progressive overtime. Each rule triggers based on the shifts actually clocked.
The sector's standard week and schedules
A 40-hour baseline, with daily limits that vary by trade.
General rule: 40 h/week
Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day, with daily windows spanning 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. depending on the trade.

Bricklayer-mason, carpenter-joiner, painter, plasterer: several trades allow 10-hour days; tile setters may reach 44 hours a week, 4 of them voluntary.
Source: IC agreement, section XXCompressed 4-day schedule by agreement
The compressed 4-day schedule is possible by agreement with a majority of employees: and as a management right for electricians (4×10 Monday to Thursday, without regular overtime).
Shifts and evening windows
Double or triple shift work (minimum duration of 4 to 5 days) and new day/evening windows for carpenter-joiners (6 a.m.-6 p.m. / 6 p.m.-6 a.m.) and painters (7 a.m.-7 p.m. / 7 p.m.-7 a.m.).
The sector's overtime and premiums
The IC sector applies progressive overtime: 150% for the first hour, 200% after.
First overtime hour at 150%, the following at 200%
Monday to Saturday, the first daily overtime hour is paid at time and a half and the following at double time. Sundays and statutory holidays are paid at 200% from the first hour. Overtime remains voluntary.
Source: IC agreement, section XXI8% evening premium
Evening windows, notably the painter's (7 p.m.-7 a.m.), carry an 8% premium, applied automatically based on the hours actually clocked.
Travel expenses and room and board
Daily allowances based on the job site's distance (65, 90, 120 km and beyond), increased each year of the agreement.
Regulated breaks, meals, and rest
Two paid 15-minute breaks, an unpaid 30-to-60-minute meal, a minimum rest of 8 hours per 24, and a meal allowance after 2 hours of overtime.

Frequently asked questions
Your questions about the institutional and commercial agreement
Answers to the most common questions from employers in the institutional and commercial sector.
What is the standard workweek in institutional-commercial?
The standard week is 40 hours, Monday to Friday, at 8 hours a day. Several trades (bricklayer-mason, carpenter-joiner, painter, plasterer) allow 10-hour days, and tile setters may reach 44 hours a week, 4 of them voluntary.
Source: IC agreement, section XXHow is overtime paid in this sector?
Monday to Saturday, the first overtime hour is paid at time and a half (150%) and the following hours at double time (200%). On Sundays and statutory holidays, double time applies from the first hour. This differs from civil engineering and industrial, where double time prevails as soon as the limit is exceeded: Clic Horaire applies the right rule based on the job site's sector.
Source: IC agreement, section XXIWhat wage increases are planned from 2025 to 2029?
The agreement provides 22% over 4 years: 8% on April 27, 2025, 5% on April 26, 2026, 5% on April 25, 2027, and 4% on April 30, 2028, plus inflation protection in 2029 (CPI + 0.5%, minimum 2.5%, maximum 4%) and additional adjustments for certain trades. Clic Horaire applies the new rate schedules automatically at each anniversary.
Source: ACQ 2025-2029 highlightsCan a residential building fall under the IC agreement?
Yes: under the CCQ's classification, residential buildings over 6 storeys fall under the institutional and commercial sector, not the residential sector. It is one of the most common coverage traps. In Clic Horaire, the agreement is set at the project level: each job site applies the right agreement, whatever the building type.
How does Clic Horaire apply the institutional and commercial agreement?
Activate the sector's preset: the 40-hour week, 8 or 10-hour days by trade, progressive 150%/200% overtime, evening premiums, and shifts are pre-configured under the 2025-2029 agreement. Geolocated clock-ins tie each shift to the right job site, and your data is consolidated for the CCQ monthly report and your payroll software.
